Office of Population Research, Princeton University
The Office of Population Research at Princeton University is the oldest population research center in the country. Founded in 1936, it has trained 110 students who received doctoral degrees and more than 100 others who received one-year professional training. Many of these alumni occupy important professional positions in developing countries; others are on university faculties in this country and abroad.
Population Index, published since 1935, is the primary reference tool to the world's population literature. It presents an annotated bibliography of recently published books, journal articles, working papers, and other material on population topics. This website provides a searchable and browsable database containing 42,662 abstracts of demographic literature published in Population Index in the period 1986-1999. Population Index is provided free of charge on the Web as a public service, thanks to financial support from NICHD and to funds obtained through subscriptions to the hard-copy journal.

This document describes the Integrated Public Use Microdata Series (IPUMS-98), created at the University of Minnesota in October 1997. The IPUMS consists of twenty-five high-precision samples of the American population drawn from thirteen federal censuses. Some of these samples have existed for years, and others were created specifically for this database. The twenty-five samples, which span the censuses of 1850 to 1990, collectively comprise our richest source of quantitative information on long-term changes in the American population.
Population Reference Bureau
Population shapes almost every aspect of our lives. Population defines the need for resource allocations--where to build roads, schools, or hospitals. Population shapes political systems and helps determine economic vitality. Because population has such a profound effect on how we plan for and realize our dreams, the Population Reference Bureau (PRB) is working hard to provide you with all the facts you need to better understand our changing world. The Population Reference Bureau was founded in 1929 and is America's oldest population organization. We are a nonprofit, non-advocacy, educational organization. We work with both public-sector and private-sector partners to increase the amount, accuracy, and usefulness of information about population trends and their implications.
